Recent reports indicate that WhatsApp for Android is exploring a new addition for its artificial intelligence chatbot, Meta AI. A feature tracker has revealed that the messaging platform is working on a memory capability that enables users to request the AI to retain certain personal details. Once the chatbot stores information, it is expected to tailor its answers accordingly, enhancing the overall user experience with more customized interactions. Although this feature was identified in the latest beta version of the app, it is not yet accessible to those participating in beta testing.

The WhatsApp feature tracker, WABetaInfo, has noted that this innovative capability will enhance the personalization of Meta AI for users. The new option was detected in the beta version 2.24.22.9 of WhatsApp for Android. At this moment, it remains hidden, and participants in the Google Beta Programme are unable to experiment with this functionality.

The chat memory feature allows individuals to instruct Meta AI to remember particular details about them. The tracker has also shared some visuals that showcase the potential operation of this feature. According to these images, a Memory option will be integrated into the Meta AI profile page, which users can access by selecting the Meta AI title located in the chat interface.

Upon accessing the profile page, users will find a new segment labeled "What Meta AI remembers about you." This section will list any information that has been saved. The feature tracker states that users can request the AI to remember various pieces of information, including dietary choices, job titles, important dates, and preferred communication styles. Once this data is stored, the chatbot is designed to recall and utilize this information when responding to inquiries. For example, a user following a vegan diet may receive vegan recipe suggestions when asking for meal ideas.

As the feature remains in development, specifics regarding its privacy and security measures have not yet been disclosed. Importantly, a comparable feature is available in OpenAI's ChatGPT, which allows users to choose which details to retain and which to discard. Users have the capability to remove any data they prefer the AI not to access. OpenAI assures that none of the information retained in the AI's memory is employed for training larger language models.
