Penguin Takes Flight: New Trailer Unveiled and Release Date Announced at SDCC 2024 image

Excitement builds as a new trailer for The Batman spin-off, The Penguin, has been unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, revealing the highly anticipated release date.

Attendees at Hall H, including representatives from GamesRadar+, were treated to an exclusive clip of the new series. In the snippet, Oswald Cobblepot, better known as the Penguin and portrayed by Colin Farrell, shares a dance with his mother, recently released from Arkham Asylum after claiming rehabilitation. Spectators also witnessed a tense encounter between the Penguin and Sofia Falcone, played by Cristin Milioti, who is confirmed to portray an alternate version of the character compared to the DC Comics iteration.

Billed as an "epic crime saga," The Penguin promises to explore the ascent of Oz Cobb in Gotham City’s notorious criminal underworld following the demise of kingpin Carmine Falcone, a role reprised by John Turturro, who met his end at the hands of the Riddler in The Batman. With Carmine’s absence, a power struggle ensues, setting the stage for intense conflicts as Oz faces off against Carmine’s own descendants. The series seamlessly continues from the 2022 movie’s conclusion, with Matt Reeves returning as an executive producer.

Joining Farrell and Milioti, the ensemble cast features Michael Zegen as Sofia’s brother Alberto, Clancy Brown as mob leader Salvatore Maroni, and additional talents including Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell. There are also rumors of Mark Strong’s involvement, which were hinted at by his personal trainer.

Mark your calendars for September 19, when The Penguin premieres on Max. In the meantime, delve into our comprehensive guide to this year's most awaited TV shows. For more updates from SDCC, be sure to check out our SDCC 2024 live blog and schedule.
