Pokémon Go AR Platform Turned Into Bitcoin Mining Machine
Shari Lynn Kramer / 01 Dec 2021
Pokémon Go’s production studio Niantic made a deal with a company Fold, mainly dealing with transactions, about creating a new game, based on the AR platform of the former developers. It will encourage players to look for Bitcoin, instead of little creatures.
Fold insisted on developing an AR app, where users will gain famously-known cryptocurrency by discovering the virtual world around them.
There is a special block, dropping every 10 minutes near the location of the player, it gives you different prizes like ‘Satoshis’, the smallest part of Bitcoin, or other bonuses. Be careful though, because upon opening such gifts (‘Poison Pills’), you can actually lose all of the money you’ve already gathered.
The department from Fold describes the game as an addition to the Fold App, which already has similar functions. There you are given an opportunity to collect bitcoin, while doing your daily tasks, like grocery shopping, paying bills, and buying coffee. Although, Fold Cardholders have the privilege of getting extra boosts and spins to collect bigger prizes on their Fold Card.
As of now, the app is still in development and is expected to come out next year. The users will be able to trade, find, and hide their rewards with the help of the IRL world. The idea of making Pokémon Go but for cryptocurrency turned into discovering a new way of engaging people in the mining process.
Will Reeves, the CEO of Fold, stated, that this could be one of the simplest and most interesting ways of getting your first Bitcoin experience. The app will be available to everyone, and It is supposed to be easy to navigate, despite you being a pro-Bitcoin miner or just a regular user.
Right now, the app seems promising and simple, but only time will show how useful it is. Do you like this idea? Do you think Fold can actually make it work? Tell us your opinion in the comments below.
