The Anticipated Comeback of Red Dead Redemption: A Possible Remaster on the Horizon
Shari Lynn Kramer / 01 Aug 2023
Red Dead Redemption is a gaming saga that has enjoyed immense popularity, boasting over 70 million units sold globally. The second installment, Red Dead Redemption II, alone accounted for 53 million copies, securing its position as the 7th best-selling game in history. The success of the franchise has been attributed to a number of factors, including the immense popularity of its sibling game, GTA V, and the enduring fan base of the original Red Dead Redemption. Set against the backdrop of the fading Wild West era, the game follows protagonist John Marston as he grapples with an evolving world.
While fans eagerly await news on the next installments of Grand Theft Auto VI and potentially Red Dead Redemption 3, rumors are circulating about a possible remaster of the first game. At present, the game is only enhanced for Xbox One X or Xbox Series consoles. However, hints and whispers suggest that a complete remaster could be in the pipeline.
A recent rumor, yet to be confirmed by Rockstar, suggests that this remaster might extend beyond Xbox Series and could be made available on PS5, PC, and even Nintendo Switch. This speculation has been fuelled by a data search on Rockstar's official website that revealed Red Dead Redemption was added to recent site modules and linked with various consoles, including Nintendo Switch. Considering the technical limitations, it's quite unlikely to see Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Switch. However, a refined version of the original game running on this platform could be a plausible expectation. Nonetheless, until an official announcement is made, it would be prudent to treat this rumor with a pinch of caution.
Similar to the months of rumors and leaks that preceded the announcement of GTA The Trilogy, fans will have to remain patient to see what surprises Rockstar has in store for Red Dead Redemption. Until then, we can only speculate and fantasize about the possibility of the humorous and zombie-infused spin-off, Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, making a comeback.
