In recent weeks, Helldivers 2 has been experiencing a significant surge in the UK, marked by a 20% increase in boxed sales during its third week post-launch, a testament to the game's favorable reception. Currently positioned at the 4th spot in the UK's physical chart, it trails only behind giants like Mario vs Donkey Kong and Hogwarts Legacy. In contrast, Ubisoft's Skull and Bones has seen a decline, falling to the sixteenth position.
Though official sales figures have yet to be released by Arrowhead, the developer behind Helldivers 2, it's implied that the game has sold approximately 3 million copies worldwide since its debut. This speculation was further fueled when Johan Pilestedt, the game director of Helldivers 2, responded to an online guess regarding its sales with suggestive emojis, indicating a figure close to the guess.
Helldivers 2 quickly rose to fame post-launch, surpassing well-known titles such as Rust, Destiny 2, and GTA5 in peak concurrent players on Steam. Boasting the title of PlayStation's most successful Steam launch to date, it achieved an all-time high concurrent peak of over 458,000 players.
In Eurogamer's review by Emma Kent, which awarded the game four stars, it’s noted that Helldivers 2 offers a thrilling, comedic co-op gameplay experience that shines when played with friends. Despite matchmaking challenges, the game delivers a string of unique, memorable moments, creating a treasure trove of hilarious anecdotes from the battlefield.
Following an increase in player demand, the game expanded its concurrent player limit to 800,000. Pilestedt expressed gratitude toward the studio’s approximately 100 developers for their extraordinary efforts in realizing this milestone.
Helldivers 2 continues to enchant players with its action-packed gameplay and dynamic co-op battles, establishing itself as a standout title in the gaming landscape.
