Steam Unveils the Most Popular Games of 2023

As the calendar turns its final pages, Steam unveils the PC gaming highlights of 2023, presenting the most popular games and other noteworthy stats for those interested in understanding which games reigned supreme in the PC arena this past year.

Steam's Best of 2023 list highlighted its most-played games, segmented into four tiers: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The cream of the crop, Platinum-tier games, saw peak player counts exceeding 300,000, while Gold games attracted up to 150,000 players. Silver-tier games drew in 80,000 peak players, and the Bronze category included games with a peak of 40,000 players. Familiar Valve hits like Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive secured their spots in the Platinum tier, joined by newcomers like Starfield and Baldur's Gate III.

An unexpected title joining the Platinum rank is Goose Goose Duck, an older team-based game that astonishingly surged to over 700,000 concurrent players in 2023.

Examining the year's top-grossing games showcases some overlap with the most-played categories. However, games like Cyberpunk 2077, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, and Hogwarts Legacy achieved impressive sales without reaching the highest concurrent player counts.
