Spotify Introduces Blend, a Shared Playlist Feature
Shari Lynn Kramer / 03 Sep 2021
After two months of beta testing, the Blend feature went public. This gives users the ability to gather their favorite songs into a shared playlist with one of their friends. Previously, it was available to a limited number of users in beta mode. Now both Spotify users of the free version and the Spotify Premium subscribers have access to it.
New Possibilities
What’s so special about the Blend playlist? According to the Spotify blog, Blend represents a set of gimmicks that helps two users share their favorite music. Thus, the new function evaluates the coincidence of musical tastes. Each of the two listeners using the Blend can find out how much their preferences match. Let’s take a closer look at all of these new features:
- Personalized cards show which song from both playlists brings two people together. The information will appear after the launch of ‘Blend’ and will be available in the playlist at any time. At the same time, you can also share cards on social networks.
- New cover feature that saves search time. Playlist visualization helps users find the playlist they want instantly.
- If you’ve always wanted to know who saves music from your playlist, this is the function for you. You can see what influenced users to add new tracks. This feature is available for Spotify Premium subscribers.
How to Use It
To use Blend, click on the “Create Blend” button in the "For You" app on your smartphone. Then invite a friend with whom you plan to try a new feature, you will receive the invitation in the form of a text message. After receiving consent from a friend, Spotify will create a custom cover and playlist based on your music preferences. According to the developers, Blend is updated daily, according to the preferences of each of the synchronized users.
