Echo VR to Shut Down in August 2023
Lindsay Robertson / 31 Jan 2023
Echo VR, Oculus’s virtual reality (VR) title, has announced that it will shut down in August 2023. The game was released in 2019 and has been a popular addition to the VR gaming community since then. Despite its success, Oculus has decided to end the game due to an “unforeseen set of circumstances.”
While the exact details of why the game is shutting down are still unclear, it is likely due to the fact that the game has become too expensive to maintain. Additionally, Echo VR never reached the level of popularity and success that Oculus had hoped for, and as a result, they decided to discontinue the game.
The shutdown will be gradual, with Oculus giving players time to prepare for the closure. The official Echo VR website has released a statement saying that they will be providing support through the end of 2023 to allow players to enjoy the game until the end.
Players have expressed sadness over the news but also understanding. Many have commended Oculus for their decision to give players advanced warning of the shutdown, allowing them to make the most out of the remaining time.
Echo VR may be shutting down at the end of summer 2023, but its legacy will continue to live on in the memories of its players. It was a beloved game that many enjoyed, and its closure is a sad but inevitable result of the ever-changing VR gaming world.
